W sobotę (7 października) o godz. 18:00, w Hali Sportowej MOSiR w Brzegu odbył się mecz I ligi piłki ręcznej mężczyzn, grupy B. W spotkaniu tym SKS ORLIK Brzeg podejmował KPR Wolsztyniak Wolsztyn.
Kolejny mecz w I lidze i kolejna przegrana Orlika po całkiem niezłym początku. Wprawdzie pierwszy punkt zdobyli goście z rzutu karnego w 2. minucie, jednak po kolejnych 2 minutach Chmiel celnym rzutem wyrównał. Chwilę później Wojcieszek zdobył punkt dla gospodarzy, a po nim Piech wykorzystał rzut karny.
W 6. minucie Orlik prowadził 3:1, ale goście powoli zaczęli odrabiać straty i już w 10. minucie udało im się wyrównać, a następnie wyjść na prowadzenie. Akcje brzeżan coraz rzadziej kończyły się skutecznymi rzutami, ale w 19. minucie udało im się doprowadzić do remisu 7:7. Końcówka należała jednak do gości i pierwsza połowa skończyła się wynikiem 11:14.
Po powrocie na parkiet sytuacja się nie zmieniła. Wolsztyniak zdobywał kolejne punkty, zwiększając swoją przewagę. Riposty naszych szczypiornistów były coraz mniej skuteczne – piłka przeważnie trafiała w poprzeczkę albo lądowała w rękach bramkarza gości. Ostatecznie mecz skończył się przegraną Orlika Brzeg 23:35.
Krytycznie o meczu wypowiedział się Michał Piech, grający trener Orlika Brzeg:
Mecz bardzo słaby w naszym wykonaniu. Wolsztyn nie grał jakoś specjalnie super. To my sami zgotowaliśmy sobie ten wynik. Nie wychodziło nam dzisiaj totalnie nic. Graliśmy bardzo słabo w obronie, w ataku gubiliśmy piłki, do tego nieskutecznie rzucaliśmy. Wszystkie błędy nawarstwiły się, stąd taki wynik, a nie inny.
Najlepsi zawodnicy meczu zostali uhonorowani statuetką MVP, ufundowaną przez Agencję Reklamy GABA. Byli to Marcin Weiss z KPR Wolsztyniak Wolsztyn i Paweł chmiel z Orlika Brzeg.
