Podczas trwającej przebudowy nawierzchni placu Bramy Wrocławskiej odnalezione zostały relikty infrastruktury średniowiecznej Bramy Wrocławskiej.

Remont związany jest z przebudową ul. Wrocławskiej. Inwestycję realizuje Starostwo Powiatowe w Brzegu. Na mocy wydanego przez Opolskiego Wojewódzkiego Konserwatora Zabytków pozwolenia konserwatorskiego, nadzór archeologiczny nad pracami prowadzi kierownik Działu Archeologii Muzeum Piastów Śląskich w Brzegu Władysław Czyżyk, któremu wsparcia merytorycznego, w zakresie rozeznania poszczególnych elementów infrastruktury, udziela dr Andrzej Peszko.

Na strukturę Bramy Wrocławskiej składało się pierwotnie kilka elementów połączonych tzw. szyją. Podczas badań prowadzonych jeszcze w 1986 r. odsłonięte zostały: zlokalizowane w obrębie wewnętrznego obwodu murów miejskich brama wraz z wieżą bramną, furta środkowa i łącząca je szyja.

W trakcie obecnie prowadzonych prac odsłonięto dalszą część szyi – łączącej furtę środkową z bramą zewnętrzną, bramę zewnętrzną – czyli właściwy wjazd do średniowiecznego miasta. Ta ostatnia, która pierwotnie wzniesiona była w formie wieży znanej nam z nowożytnej ikonografii, zaopatrzona była w przylegający doń od południa budynek wartowni bądź komory celnej, wybudowany w konstrukcji szachulcowej.

Zidentyfikowano również fragmenty murów odchodzących od zakończenia bramy w kierunku północnym, a więc łączący się z systemem obronnym zamku. W trakcie badań odnaleziono sporo fragmentów ceramiki użytkowej, kafli, fragmenty konstrukcji budynku szachulcowego oraz drewniane elementy konstrukcji samego wjazdu.

Według wstępnej oceny nawierzchnia wjazdu do miasta wykonana była z drewna. Miejmy nadzieję, że odnaleziony średniowieczny wjazd do miasta zostanie uwieczniony w nawierzchni remontowanego placu.
